Lot Details

13th to 16thC. A brown stoneware figure of a kneeling man holding a cockerel in the crook of his left arm. The upper part dipped in a white slip and in under glaze black. 5.5 x 5.2 x 11.5 cm. A similarly decorated figure although unattributed to a particular site is illustrated in Roxanna M Brown, Legend and reality: early ceramics from South-East Asia (Cologne: Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst, 1977), no. 152. Acquired at Webb's Asian art June live sale, 13 June 2020, lot 266. Sold as 'A 14th Century Chinese Yuxi Kiln Blue and White Ceramics Statue’.
